Bonds and Cross Training
Bonds reward repeated cooperation and campaign choices. Each level can grant permanent benefits to both Operators, so squad rotation becomes a progression decision.

Cross Training is permanent progression
When a Bond level increases, both Operators can receive a permanent combat stat bonus. A maximum Bond can unlock special Cross Training with a passive ability.
Develop one useful pair on purpose
Hawks and Trick are a practical first pair because story missions require Hawks and Trick can protect the front line. Deploy them together, choose their Call for Backup pairing when it creates a useful assist, and use both on suitable Operations. When their Bond rises, visit Personnel and choose the Cross Training result that supports their current jobs.
Bonds are not romance
EA has explicitly stated that Zero Company has no romance system. Bond dialogue and rewards represent relationships between squadmates rather than hidden romance routes.
